Word Boards Or Face Boards?

Whether you're at a child's birthday party, a corporate event or a themed wedding, face painting adds a touch of magic and creativity to any gathering. When it comes to planning your face painting designs, you have a choice to make: should you use a word board or a face board? In this blog post, we'll explore the advantages and disadvantages of both options to help you decide which one suits your face painting needs.

Word Boards

A word board is a visual aid that provides a written description or name of the face painting designs available. It typically includes a list of options like "butterfly," "tiger," "unicorn," and more. This written reference helps both the face painter and the person getting painted to communicate and choose a design.

Advantages of Word Boards

Clarity: Word boards ensure that there's no confusion about the available designs. Everyone can see the options clearly and select their desired design.

Working with colleagues: If you use a word board you're able to work along side fellow face painters and each can paint their own styles and designs of the same word.

Variation: You are able to paint different styles of the same word. If the line gets busy and you need to speed through your ever growing queue, having a word board enables you to paint a faster, more simplified version of a unicorn than you would normally! As there's no visible design to see, the client will never know!

Customisation: You can create word boards to match the theme of your event, adding a fun and personalised touch.

Face Boards

A face board, on the other hand, is a visual representation of the available face painting designs. Instead of words, it shows images or illustrations of the various design options, giving customers a preview of what they can expect.

Advantages of Face Boards

Visual Appeal: Face boards are visually engaging and can attract attention more effectively than word boards.

Age Friendly: Face boards are particularly helpful for children who may not yet be able to read. They can simply point to the design they want.

Artistic Freedom: Face boards allow face painters to showcase their artistic talents off! They can create detailed designs and really show off their own style!

Inspiration: Visual representations can inspire customers and spark their creativity, encouraging them to choose unique designs.

Choosing the Right Option for you

The decision between a word board and a face board ultimately depends on your target audience and your personal preferences as a face painter. Here are some factors to consider.

Audience: If you frequently paint at events with a diverse age range, a combination of both word and face boards might be the best choice. So if you have the word tiger on your board why not put a small image of a tiger next to it?

Artistic Style: If you're particularly proud of your artistic abilities and want to showcase your talent, a face board allows you to do just that.

Theme: Match your choice to the theme of the event. For a children's birthday party, a colourful face board might be more appropriate, while a word board could work better at a corporate or adult party event.

Whatever you opt for, a word board or a face board, the key is to make the face painting experience enjoyable and hassle-free for both you and your clients. A well-thought-out board, whether textual or visual, will enhance the overall experience and make your face painting business stand out from the competition. So, choose the option that best aligns with your style and your business!
